We had a great meal and we shared it with some friends. They did not know that they were going to be guinea pigs on a new recipe, but, thankfully, it turned out well.
Carl chose to make a shrimp dish (SURPRISE!) Actually, he at first wanted to do a standing prime rib roast and I talked him out of it when I convinced him that a ten pound rib roast would set us back a pretty penny. So, shrimp, it was. He did two dishes - one was grilled shrimp that had been marinated in a yummy marinade that he made all by himself. The main dish was called New England shrimp cobbler.
It definitely was more detailed and involved than Carl thought. At one point during the day of preparation, Carl suggested that we change it to monthly instead of weekly. Carl worked feverishly almost all day, first searching out the ingredients, then preparing it. He had to make it own fish stock, search in two different towns for herbs and spices, clean the shrimp, make the marinade, etc, etc. When I got home, I tried to help, I was quite surprised when he was telling me how detailed it was, then when he asked me to get out the souffle dishes, I was shocked. Even I knew better than to try a souffle! This is when Carl & I had a little talk about what we chose to cook versus the difficulty of the recipe as well as the availability of ingredients and cost of ingredients!
He decided that he would pay a little more attention to the actual recipe next time.
I made a fruit cocktail cheese cake. I do not have to make it again. Even though it was okay, it wasn't, shall we say - chocolate!
All in all - very good, very tasty!

I'll bet you won't be making either recipe again. Much too involved and complicated. Glad it turned out tasty for it's once in a lifetime appearance. :)
