Fishing for the last time in 2009

We had a great time fishing the very last day of the year.  It was suppose to be 70 degrees today and guess what -  it was for about 30 minutes, just as soon as we got on the boat to go back across the channel to our truck! The rest of the time, it was overcast and just a tad damp from all of the fog. Irregardless, it was great fun. Carl and the guys caught over 220 fish, limited out their official "keepers"  with 45 fish total. Most of the fish were sheephead fish. A strange fish and called that because of their teeth. I think they look more like a zebra fish, but their teeth are really strange looking. Flat blunt teeth just like sheep's teeth, hence the name "Sheephead".

I started out walking the beach looking for shells. This was a beach that is not accessible to people unless you take the jetty boat and get dropped off. The boat then comes back every hour for return trips. I walked for about 2 1/2 hours, then went to the jetty to see how the guys were doing. I took a few pictures there and watched them fish, then I headed back to the beach for more shells. There were some really great shells and I found probably about 25 sanddollars. Some were teeny tiny, but they are still beautiful. The sand dollars actually are something that is really NOT bigger in Texas. The ones that I got from the Oregon coast are HUGE compared to these. A totally different kind as well, which I did not know. The one in the very center with no holes in it, is from the Pacific coast and all of the others are from the Texas Gulf coast. (Notice the difference?) I am looking forward to going back again SOON. I know that the dollars do get bigger than the ones that I found, because of the pieces that I saw, so maybe....one day I will find some larger ones. They are just so fragile here that they usually break up before they get to the shore, so.....it will just require some patience on my part.

Had a great time, got lots of exercise and anxious to do it again.
