The coyotes did not get them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like they either moved off to greener pastures, or just didn't want to mess with Carl's wrath (or the new fence), but the coyotes left our melons ALONE this year. Right after we got back from Flaming Gorge, we went to the garden and found a couple had cracked from the water and the heat, so we salvaged most of them and WOW...they were so GOOD ! One was a yellow meat and one was a red meat...YUMMY ! Carl spotted a huge one but after examining it determined that it was not ready to be picked. He hated to leave it unattended, but we had to leave for a few days to go to the reunion and when we got back - he couldn't stand it any longer. He snapped the vine and brought it in....a huge hulking 60 pounds, it measures 26 1/2 inches long, then he went back out and was looking at another one and when he rolled it a little to check it, the vine snapped, so he brought it in...40 pounds!!!Looks like we are having a watermelon feast tonight. So Carl got on the phone and called up a bunch of people and invited them over. I went into town and bought some ice to cool them down. NOW, let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that they are RIPE!!! Here's the before cutting picture and I will repost the after ones later......
