Flaming Gorge 2010

We started a tradition about 4 years ago and it has been such a treat for all of us. This year we added a new participant - Tyler. Next year we hope to have him again and hopefully some more family members.
Flaming Gorge Utah is a great place to go to get away from it all and enjoy the beauty that God put here on earth for us. Fantastic scenery and views of nature. Deep red canyons and beautiful clear water flowing through the Green river. We have stayed at this one particular place for the past three years. Beautiful handcrafted log cabins nestled in the foothills and a panoramic view AND  very decent price.
We went up into the mountains to a high mountain lake the first day and enjoyed a little fishing and sightseeing.
The next day was a hike day. We usually do a 7.2 mile hike down the river to Little Hole. There are some pretty rough spots, so all of us didn't make it this year. Christy and I had little Ethan, so we started out with the others, but turned around when Ethan had had enough and went back to the car and drove down to the end where they would come out and hiked up to meet them (so we only did about 3 and 1/2 miles). Young Carl did fly fishing while the others hiked.
Then..the next day we went rafting........what fun. ...this year we got two rafts, then the war began......we had a couple that jumped rafts to throw someone in and ended up getting thrown in themselves...(Not to mention any names - Tyler) and we had several water fights with the oars. Alway had to have a few brave souls jump into the frigid water as well. We also had just a few seconds  of panic when one raft got stuck on a rock in the middle of the river. Normally this wouldn't be much of a problem, but they had a self-bailing raft which means that it was not smooth on the bottom - more like a pontoon boat and the rock was between the pontoons!!!! Took a little effort to get it off of the rocks without tipping it over, but the brave men that they were....DID it. We did two trips down and it was wonderful.
Next day was time to pack up and leave.....where did the time go????????
We dropped Tyler   off in Greely and headed home. Easy but long trip home. Left Greeley at about 7PM and got home at about midnight the next night. WHEW...till next time...
