Another experiment
Tried new recipes out on the card players this week. For the main meal, I did bowtie pasta with chicken, mushrooms, and black olives in a white sauce. In one dish I did alfredo sauce topped with parmeasan, swiss and mozzarella cheeses. Then in another dish, I did a cream of chicken soup, mixed with half and half and topped with the same cheeses, but added cheddar and slices of tomatoes. Both were very good, not sure which one I preferred.
Then for the dessert................I had some blackberries that I needed to use and not quite enough for anyone particular dish, so I filled the bottom of a pie shell with slices of granny smith apples and then I layered the blackberries and topped it off with another layer of apple slices. (The apple slices and the berries were all coated with sugar, cinnamon and a little bit of flour) I dotted the top with butter and then put the pastry cover on it and cut out designs and basted with melted butter and baked it. (Crust was really yummy) I served with vanilla ice cream. I think it was a good combination. The berries weren't too strong, I liked it. So, the berries were toned down by the apples and they just blended in with the berries.Of course, almost anything is great with ice cream and good company!!!!
