DEWBERRIES

Now on to the dewberries. It was real slim picking this year. There were plenty of dewberries, but it has been so dry, the berries were small and were drying up just as soon as they were ripening!!!! We were able to get about 4 1/2 gallons (which made us almost as much juice as the HUGE ice chest of mayhaws!!)  Anyway that will last us until next year and we will go back for the blackberries next month when they ripen. So we shoulkd be fines....especially since we haven' even HAD any for the past 30 years on our shelf, so we are truly blessed and rich in supply now.
The white objects in the above picture are "white" dewberries. As a kid growing up, I had never heard of any, but I believe that Debbie and Dudley a few years back discovered these as they were picking berries in Warren. They are really delicious, but they are really getting scarce. so, we don't know if they are just a "mutant" gene or what and is being forced out of existence. There were only a few stands of them this year. I believe that Debbie is going to try and transplant some and see if she can get them to grow wild in their yard. I hope so, 'cause they are juicy and very tasty!   BUT, this is one of my "Mostest" favorite berries that there is and Carl and I are going to really enjoy the purple dumplings that will be made with the juice (as will our grandkids!)
I so appreciate family for helping us this week. Without them, we would be "so out of luck". So, a big thanks to Terry, Carron and Debbie for going the extra mile. We really appreciate it. (All they got out of this was one itty bitty jar of jelly and our company....we took all of the bounty home with us......what a family we have!!!)
