It's BERRY time!!!

Went to East TX to pick dewberries, mulberries and mayhaws. We started out on Wednesday morning going to the mayhaw orchard. that a cousin of Carl's has on his property. We took along baskets for collecting as well as a tarp. We spread the tarp under the tree and took a 15 foot PVC pipe and reached up into the tree and "rattled" it's cage. We went to every tree in the orchard and did that. Results....a huge ice chest full of mayhaws.
It took us hours to clean and pick out the mayhaws from the bugs, leaves, spiders, bugs, leaves (did I say spiders & bugs?) big  worms, little  worms...this is all organic stuff here. None of them were infesting the fruit itself, but they were living in the trees. Anyway, finally we got them ready for cooking, then we strained the pulp and heated the juice, poured them into quart jars (made about 15 quarts of juice). Then we made a few pints of jelly and by 8:00 that night, we had it done and we all went to bed so we could do it again the next day, but with dewberries this time!
